One caveat, and it is an important one: As great an addition as audio can be, it, too, can be used in ways that actually are harmful. Unless your visitors are entering the sound-enabled page from a link on another page on your website and the link makes it clear that music or other sound will start when the new page opens, DON'T allow sound to begin playing immediately when your page opens.
Remember that some of your visitors may be accessing your site from their work computers, while others may be using a computer in their bedroom while their spouse is sound asleep. You don't want to get people fired from their jobs or cause marital discord, right?
Be sure to place start, stop, pause, volume and mute controls on your web page, giving your visitors complete control over the when, if, and how of audio on your site.
